Veteran's Day Special
Suzan's aunt, Lib Neilson, sent me this video clip which may be viewed on U-Tube as well.  It is the full rendition of Il Silenzio, otherwise known as "Taps".  These are the words that accompanied the video, which explains it.  "This is a most beautiful rendition.  The girl's name is Melissa Venema and she is playing with maestro Andre Rieu from Maastriecht in the Netherlands.  She is 13 and has been performing for years.  This performance is in Maastriecht in 2008 where city officials sealed off the town square and closed everything down so they could get perfect noise control.  All who have studied music will appreciate such a 13 year old young lady."  If this is the first time you have ever heard the full rendition of TAPS, you are in for a treat.

If God Advertised
If God advertised, here are some of the things he might say......This is a PowerPoint presentation sent to me by a friend. It was produced by a church in Singapore. You will need a PowerPoint reader to view it and speakers turned on to enjoy the sound that accompanies the presentation.  Enjoy.

Obituary for Daphne Rice
The following obituary appeared Wednesday July 1, 2009 in the Mobile Register and online at www.al.com for one of our beloved members, Daphne Rice, who died this past Sunday June 28, 2009.  Daphne was a vital and loved member of our congregation from its beginning and we will all miss her.

Daphne Brown Rice, a native of Starkville, Mississippi and resident of Gulf Shores, Alabama passed away peacefully on Sunday, her husband by her side, at Robertsdale Healthcare Center. She was 82. She graduated from Lee County High School in 1944 and Auburn University in 1948, Phi Kappa Phi, with a degree in home economics. Her senior year she also studied voice and sang in the first opera production at Auburn University. She ran the Auburn snack bar the year she graduated and was also a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. Daphne was a devoted wife, mother, and member of the community, raising funds for everything from baseball uniforms to an organ for the church. She was a member of the church of St. Andrew by the Sea where she sang in the choir. Daphne was also a member of the DAR. She loved her friends in Auburn, LaGrange and Gulf Shores with whom she enjoyed bridge club and participating in many activities at the church. Daphne was preceded in death by her parents, Lyle Brown and Lillian Mullins Brown and her brother Frances Brown. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Sam Rice; 2 children, Patton Rice of Mandeville, LA and Allison Ficht of College Station, TX; son-in-law Thomas Ficht of College Station, TX; and 3 grandchildren Hannah Rice of Mandeville, LA, and Sean Ficht and Eric Ficht of College Station, TX. Visitation will be held from 6 - 8 pm, Wednesday July 1 at the Pine Rest Funeral Home in Foley, AL. The memorial service will be celebrated at 11:00am, Thursday July 2, at St. Andrew by the Sea, 17263 Fort Morgan Rd., Gulf Shores, AL.
